Hey everyone!!!

It feels so good to be writing again. I'm sooooooo sorry that I've not been updating my blog. I've been so busy with school and other things.

But i'm back now, and i'll love to introduce you to some fabulous designer that i discovered today. Her name is Bola Obileye. She's a fashion stylist, Photojournalist, Fashion Editor, Accessories Designer, Author, and Career mentor. I found her online, never heard of her before, but so far I'm incredibly impressed by her. She does ankara handbags, ankara laptop cases, ankara necklaces, clutch bags and so on.

In a fashion industry where everybody does ankara and everything has become incredibly boring, her stuff is a breath of fresh air. Her designs are beautiful, photography flawless and she even calls herself the Ankaranista! (New word people :D) I think she's beautiful, stylish and fabulous. For more information on her, go to www.totecollections.com

Ankara denim and shoes.

I wasn't sure what to name this post. Because I'm not sure of what to name the trend. Traditional denim? Ankara denim? Ankara and denim? Tribal denim? Either ways this trend is fantastic. It is denim so its just as easy to rock. Its just way better because there are pops of color. This is double fantastic if you're trying to rock the double denim trend because it just makes yor outfit look more interesting and less blue....lol.

If you want to get them you can order online from  www.duafedenimonline.com. A cheaper and better alternative would be to give it to a antastic tailor or better yet do it yourself. Check www.thefashionengineer.com for tips.

To make this "gel" better, add some Ankara shoes.
Pair the shoes and denim using tips from my "Pattern on Pattern" post.

THIS is who we are

Based on an anonymous tip , i've not exactly been living up to my African roots in terms of showing the world what African fashion is all about. So it got me thinking about what exactly African fashion is and what do we have to offer. Are we just what the western world makes us out to be? Tribal? Colorful ankara print? Loads and loads of beads?
Its a beautiful thing that a few of us africans in general have stopped trying so hard to  chase the western/european dream and have started to appreciate our cultures for what they really are and represent.
Dont get me wrong African fashion is Tribal. The bold and colorful ankara print is a huge part of it. But its not the only one made in Africa. We have aso oke, kente, khitenge, khanga and so on. And we love loads and loads of colorful beads. But it doesnt end there. Africa is a very diverse continent with thousands of cultures with different forms of styles. What is worn in the North of Africa cant be worn in the west.
Even though we squeeze and try to "funkify" african fashion to look western. It is, what it is. Raw. Colorful. Bold. Beautiful. Diverse.

Rocker Chic For Summer

I've always liked that dark, sleek, sexy, I-just-threw-this-on-but-still-look-awesome bad ass look. With all that black and some crazy pop of color, with studs, zippers, chains, lots of necklaces, just edgy and cool......that kinda vibe. Rihanna pulls this off easily with her crazy hair cuts and tattoos.

There are so many ways to pull off this look. You dont have to wear all black. That would be insane, since its summer and its so hot! you could be sweet and colorful with studs, zippers and chains. And since studs, metallica and neon are so in this summer, it's perfect. The most advisable thing to do would be to limit your studs, zippers and so on to just one accesory/piece. It could be your jacket, bangles, shoes, purse, anything.

Whichever you choose know that most of the time because of the chains and studs, tese pieces are the 'statement pieces1 of the outfit. This means you have to choose your entire outfit based on them. If your wearing black studed pumps, your entire outfit shouldnt outdo the pumps. They're the 'look at me!!!!" parts of your outfit...lol!!!

 Have fun!!!
