What I totally adore about summer trends is that, they work for us here in Africa because its always so hot! EXCEPT the rainy season which we hardly dress for. Crop tops are a perfect, perfect example of the 'workable' trends of summer.



I know it sounds a little over the top here in Nigeria because exposing yourself that way would get you looks....really ugly looks. Especially from mean old women that'll ask you whether your mother saw you before you left the house. I get it.

If you care about the 'mean looks', there are different types of crops and different ways to wear them. Crop tops are free,simple and easy to rock whethere you care to show your bare belly or not. There are so many varieties: bralets, long sleeve shirts, jersey sweaters, lace tops or simple cotton blouses.

Crop tops are very versataile in the ways they can be worn . You can wear it with a long skirt, maxi if preferred,tank top if your not comfortable with baring your tummy, over a bathing suit, with high waisted bottoms, with a fitted dress and so on and on. They can worn casual if you care for the beach babe look or casual if you're going for the lady like appeal. Whatever it is, the bottom line is to have fun with it. Its flattering for all figures if u just wear it right.

Pattern-on-Pattern??!!!

The fact that mixing prints is a trend just goes to show that fashion is ever evolving. Because up until a few seasons ago,pairing "pattern-on-pattern" was a major no-no. But during the 2012 Spring Fashion Shows at the New York Fashion Week, designers like Charlotte Ronson, Anna Sui,Karen Walker and many others forced us to pay attention! So dear readers pay attention: I'm going to be laying down the basic rules of pairing prints together in order to own this trend.

Fabulous Neck Pieces From Christie Brown

Next up is Aisha Ubuobi of the Christie Brown label. She designs clothes and neck pieces. And i adore those neck pieces. Alicia keys was on the cover of Vibe Magazine with one of those fabulous accessories. They are of two types. One is made of buttons covered up in ankara fabric with feathers or jewels attached to it. And the second is made of long pieces of fabric arranged beautifully. Good stuff.

Sika designs are sick!!! :D

In anticipation of the upcoming fashion week taking place in Ghana, I decided to do a series of posts on my favorite Ghanaian designers so far. These people are talented and are taking African fashion to another level by coming up with the most beautiful and unique pieces ever.

Pucker up!!!

There's this lipstick trend going on in my school and the rest of the world. But like every trend in the world, its not for everybody! I mean it looks great on some people especially light skinned ones.

But some people ehn!! Really dark people using neon pink lipstick in the afternoon. Seriously?!!

Not this lady below though, this is an advert from i-D magazine but it sure explains my point.

If you have fair skin deep, plum reds, berry, wine reds, browns -light medium browns or beige's with pink undertones. Stay away from those bright, loud pink lipsticks.

Medium skin should use rich, deep pinks, deep reds, rich caramel shades, medium brown with yellow or pink undertones, and creamy coffee colored brown lipsticks. Stay away from browns that are very pale. They can make medium skins look ashy and washed out. 

Dark skin should try reds with blue undertones. Also, mahogany, deep plums, wine reds, almost any shade of brown, rich, dark, coffee browns flatter the skin. Avoid orange undertones in lipsticks

I on the other hand will just stick to clear lip gloss :D

If you want to wear a trend, make sure it suits you and doesn't make you look ridiculous. Find ways to adapt it to you. If you can't then hunnie, leave it alone. In summary, do you.
